The internet is a buzz with an equal amount of yay and naysayers squabbling over whether or not Girl Talk should be sued for his unauthorized and unapologetic sampling. It is reported that his 2006 release contained an astonishing 160 stolen (not borrowed) samples. So why haven’t we seen 160 lawsuits? Why is Mary J Blige currently facing a 2 million dollar lawsuit for allegedly committing the same act of stealing someone else’s music? Girl Talk’s camp has released statements arguing (of all things) that his label Illegal Art isn’t making much money off of him anyways. I am under the impression that all of this talk of him not being sued is going to at the very least, entice a few artists to take a swing.
