What a horrible story to come across.  Early reports are stating that Travis Barker and Dj AM are both in critical but stable condition after suffering extensive burns and surviving a plane crash.  Barker and AM had performed together yesterday in South Carolina and were assumingly on their flight home when this tragedy occured. The plane which carried 6 passengers ( 2 pilots) never got off the ground but instead went careening across the roadway and burst into flames. The two managed to get themselves off of the burning aircraft, but unfortunately the other four passengers were not so lucky, all of them have been reported dead.  So sad.  Our thoughts are with Travis and Am for quick recoveries.

I had the chance to go and see Goldfrapp at one of my favorite places – The Commodore Ballroom on Granville.  It was a good show and Goldfrapp sounded great.  I have to say that I am not a huge Goldfrapp fan, but I do enjoy them from time to time. I will say that she sounded as good live as she does on record which is often times a rarity.  The opener for the night was a woman by the name of Jaymay who is actually pretty good.  She reminded me a bit of KT Tunstall when she slows it down. Overall not a bad show.

Following up two solid releases MGMT will release a new single on October 13th 2008.  The last track Electric Feel had a different feel completely more of a chilled out vibe in comparison to its predecessor Time to Pretend.  It will be interesting to see what this new Track titled Kids will sound like.

Here is Electric Feel…it’s kind of groovy.

Ruh Roh… I have a feeling Kanye is going to have a few more choice words before all of this is over.  Seriously though, I can’t say that I am in disagreeance with his behaviour. I mean there are times when I as a normal non celebrity just don’t want to have my picture taken.  I cannot imagine how insanely infuriating constant camera flashes would be when you are doing nothing but minding your own bizz. In this case a camera was broken and Kanye now faces felony vandalism charges.  Yipes!

This years MTV video awards will take place in Paramount Studios in Hollywood this Sunday.  I’ve skimmed over the nominees and I was so delighted to see that Ms. Baduism herself has been nominated for her Honey video ( which she co-directed herself).  Check out Erykah  being way to cool for school as she describes her nominated vid.

I’ll follow up after the awards with a recap of all of the hits and misses.

Update: I don’t know. I really couldn’t find anything interesting to write about.  The show went off as expected. Bravo MTV.

In three days the world will welcome ACDC’s 1996 Performance at Madrid’s Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas  via DVD. Depending on whichever time zone you may be in the official release date is September 8th, 2008.  This DVD includes the entirety of the concert remixed with some bonus features thrown in for fun. ACDC is setting themselves up to have a big year in 2008.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are having a hard time finding suitable “let’s get pumped up” music for their campaign.  This isn’t so much an issue of them not being able to pick a song, but more so the artists behind the music refusing to let them use the songs.

Among those artist are Van Halen whose song Right Now was used without permission in a Dayton Ohio Palin appearance.  Van Halen “never granted permission to use the track, and had permission been sought, it would never have been granted.” In another appearance Palin and McCain stole Heart’s Barracuda. In response to this Nancy Wilson of Heart responded by saying that she felt  “completely f—ed over.” Needless to say the Republicans may have to hire their own musicians  who can offer some original music because I don’t imagine that there are too many artists out their who want their music tied to the Republican Party. Still if all else fails, Palin could go with Hall and Oates She’s a maniac and we could slow it down a notch for McCain…perhaps Beck’s Looser.

Zero 7 (as previously mentioned) has worked with numerous artists in different capacities.  I am going to link them to an artist steadily growing in popularity, Sia Furler. Zero 7 collaborated with Sia  on (among other things) her hit single Breathe Me which was brought to fame by it’s unforgettable appearance on HBO’s Six Feet under series . The instrumental portion of this remix is mind blowing.  The track originated on Sia’s 2004 (Europe & Austrailia) and 2006’s (US) Color the Small one album.  Sia is a different kind of artist and can definitely hold her own as a singer/ songwriter. Most recently 2007 saw Sia release her latest work Some people have real problems which was welcomed by rave reviews. Here is a video of Zero 7’s and Sia’s  remix.  Sorry for the bad acoustics but hopefully you get the gist anyway.

From Sia I have to link up with a duo who much like the aforementioned Frou Frou no longer exist, but are moving on as  up and coming solo artists . They are…

Gabriel and Dresden

These guys aren’t strangers to anyone even remotely involved in the electronic music scene. As DJ’s and producers they have seen much success with numerous colaborations and remixes garnishing them with a plethora of rewards and track credits. They have teamed up for remixes which include  Depeche Mode’s  Here Is The House , The Killers 2007 Read My Mind and in  Coldplay’s 2003 hit Clocks to name a few . One of the more recent  and final remixes by the duo was with Sia Fruler on the her single The Girl you lost to Cocaine .  I can’t even scratch the surface of these guys in any suitable way – so I will leave a link to a list of their accomplishments/discography for your viewing pleasure. Although Gabriel and Dresden are no longer ,they have left their prints smeared all over the electronic music scene.  Gabriel and Dresden provide an easy link to other artists but to move away from the genre of Electronic music I have chosen to go with…

Sarah McLachlan

I took this pic at  Cyndi Lauper’s True Color Tour stop over in Vancouver. Sarah made one of her increasingly rare appearances and played some oldies but goodies to a delighted crowd at the Vancouver’s Deer Lake Park. If you are not familiar with Sarah McLachlan then I really can’t help you. In any case , she is among the seemingly endless list of artists to have had one of her songs remixed by Gabriel and Dresden.  You can listen to the  G and D remix of Sarah’s track Fallen here. Sarah has recently released a new digital single on Itunes  and will release a best of album in October of this year.

Just a note for all of you residing outside of the Us who will not be privy to ACDC’s newest single after an eight year hiatus available to US Residents on I heart music you can find it here….not sure for how long so hurry ! You can also hear the single on October 21st when the full album titled Black Ice finally drops.
